At Dr. Lance Savoie Family Dental, we specialize in restorative dentistry. Our certified professionals can help you restore your beautiful smile after a cavity or other dental problem. Our most common restorative dental procedure is a dental filling after the removal of a cavity.

If you are unfamiliar with dental fillings and would like to learn more, please continue reading to see when a filling is necessary as well as how the process works.

Why a Filling?

When you experience a cavity in a tooth, it is important to get it removed as soon as possible to prevent it from spreading to the entire tooth or other surrounding teeth. When performing a filing, we start by numbing the tooth and taking a dental drill to remove all of the decay. Once the decay is removed, the tooth is filled with a dental resin to return to how it previously looked and functioned.

We encourage our patients to get fillings as recommended to prevent abscesses and excessive decay. If your tooth has fallen out or needs to be extracted, we also offer other, more extensive restorative options.

Filling Material

What is a filling made of? How does it work with your natural teeth? The filling material is dental resin, a ceramic and plastic compound that, when hardened, acts like the enamel of your teeth. In preparation for a filling, the dental professional will choose a filling material that will match your natural tooth shade perfectly, allowing the filling to blend in.

The filling process from start to finish will only take about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the size of the filling needed.
