Restorative Dentistry

As part of our commitment to the oral health of our patients, we offer several restorative dentistry procedures.

Our family-friendly practice treats patients from all over Abbeville Louisiana, providing a professional and friendly service.

What is restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry aims to replace damaged or missing teeth. The goal is to improve and restore general dental health and give you a complete smile again.

Many of these services also overlap with cosmetic dentistry, as they are designed to restore your smile, but also prevent other health issues in the future.

Benefits of restorative dentistry

Beyond the cosmetic benefits of replacing teeth, restorative procedures also:

  • Keep teeth aligned properly by filling any gaps
  • Make it easier to improve oral hygiene and prevent the build-up of plaque
  • Improve confidence and self-esteem which may have suffered previously

Services we provide

Fillings

Cavities and decay are often treated using fillings. These involve the removal of the affected part of the tooth, and the placing of material to fill that gap. Fillings can be made of silver amalgam, gold, porcelain, or composite resin. Depending on the level of damage, location of the tooth, and cosmetic look required, your dentist will be able to recommend which material is best for your needs.

Porcelain crowns and bridges

Crowns are used to fully cover a tooth that has extensive damage or decay. Like fillings, crowns can be composed of many different types of material. Porcelain crowns give a natural look to the crown, making it indistinguishable from other teeth.

Bridges are used to fill gaps of one or more teeth. They are anchored in place on either side of the tooth gap by crowns placed over your existing teeth. They are a good alternative to partial dentures but you will need to have teeth on either side that are strong enough to accommodate a crown and keep the bridge in place.

Implants

The technology around dental implants has come a long way in the last decade. Now, you can replace a single tooth, or even all of your teeth, with long-lasting, secure implants.

The implant is done in two parts. First, a titanium screw is placed in the jawbone where the tooth used to be. Then, the crown is fitted to the screw, giving you teeth that are indistinguishable from the real thing.

You’ll be assessed to see if you’re a good candidate for implants. Your overall oral health needs to be good to give the procedure the best chance of working. If it isn’t, we can work with you to get it under control so that you can proceed with the implant.

Implants can be fitted individually, as a bridge, or even as a complete set of dentures that are secured in place, making them preferable to traditional dentures.

Taking care of your teeth

With any of our restorative dentistry services, you’ll be advised on how to care for and clean your teeth, crowns, and implants. Good oral hygiene involved brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day, and using an antibacterial mouthwash to prevent any infections.
