[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Dr. Savoie is a local restorative dentist in Abbeville, LA. Dr. Savoie and his team work hard to provide beautiful restorations to the residents of Abbeville, LA. Whether you have a broken tooth, a decayed tooth, or a dental infection, Dr. Savoie can help restore your smile. The two main therapeutic procedures Dr. Savoie offers at his dental practice are porcelain bridges, crowns, and dental fillings.

Porcelain Bridges

Patients missing one or more teeth in a row may benefit from porcelain bridges. A porcelain bridge bridges the gap over the missing tooth by anchoring a dental crown on the adjacent teeth. Patients that may need a porcelain bridge have a missing tooth from trauma or infection.

To place a porcelain bridge, Dr. Savoie and his team will first take an impression of your teeth. Then, Dr. Savoie sends the impression to a lab where they design the porcelain bridge to your specifications. To prepare your teeth for the bridge, Dr. Savoie will buff your adjacent teeth to the missing tooth that your dentist will anchor the bridge on. To buff the teeth, Dr. Savoie will remove part of the outer layer of the tooth, the enamel. Once the porcelain bridge arrives at the dental office, Dr. Savoie will invite you back to try on the bridge. Once we adjust the bridge to your liking, Dr. Savoie will bond the bridge to your teeth. Then, your smile will not have a noticeable missing tooth.

Porcelain Crown

Most patients receive porcelain crowns to restore a large part of the tooth that was missing. For example, if we remove a large piece of dental decay or part of the crown was broken, Dr. Savoie may restore the tooth with a dental crown. A dental crown is placed similarly to a dental bridge. First, Dr. Savoie will take an impression of your teeth which we will send to a lab. When the porcelain crown arrives at Dr. Savoie’s office, you will be invited back for a fitting. The crown is secured with a bonding gel.

Dental Filling

Dental fillings are best for patients who have had dental decay removed. Once we remove the decay, Dr. Savoie will replace the decay with a dental filling. A dental filling is made of composite resin, an acrylic material with a tooth-like coloring. Patients should receive a dental filling when they first are told they have dental decay. If dental decay is untreated, it can spread throughout your tooth and gums, causing more damage.

Other Restorative Dental Procedures

Dr. Savoie also offers other restorative dental procedures such as TMD therapy and oral surgery. Patients often have TMJ pain from the stress that leads to grinding their teeth. TMJ damages your teeth because the grinding wears down the top layer, the enamel, and it can also damage your temporomandibular joint (TMJ). One way to treat TMJ is through relaxation techniques. Dr. Savoie can help you protect your teeth with TMJ by providing a nightguard to wear while you sleep. Most patients grind their teeth the most while they are sleeping.

Dr. Savoie also performs oral surgery for restorative dentistry. Oral surgery includes tooth extraction, dental implant placement, and jaw surgery. Dr. Savoie removes wisdom teeth and other teeth that are infected. Patients can replace one or missing teeth with dental implant placement. These types of dental restorations are done in oral surgery under conscious sedation. Lastly, Dr. Savoie can repair a misaligned bite and improve the function of your teeth.
